Hi, I’m Fauzia Choudhury

Portrait of Fauzia Choudhury, LMSW, culturally responsive therapist at Montclair Counseling Collective

I provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy for individuals navigating identity, relationships, anxiety, grief, trauma, and life transitions. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood so we can explore your experiences with curiosity, compassion, and honesty.

As a first-generation Indian-American woman with Bengali roots, my personal and professional experiences have shaped the way I practice. I understand the complexities of balancing culture, family expectations, faith, and identity, and I strive to create a therapeutic relationship that feels collaborative, affirming, and grounded in who you are.

Who I Work Best With

The clients who tend to connect with me appreciate a therapist who is both warm and real. Someone who won't simply reflect things back, but will gently name what's happening when the time is right. I work well with people who want to feel genuinely understood before being challenged.

This often includes individuals figuring out romantic relationships in the age of dating apps, people preparing for marriage and wanting to enter it intentionally, and professionals in high-demand careers who are trying to find balance without losing themselves in the process.

If you've ever felt like you had to leave part of yourself at the door in order to be understood, you'll likely feel comfortable working with me.

My Approach

For me, the relationship is the work. I prioritize building trust and safety before anything else because real growth doesn't happen in a room where you're still deciding whether it's okay to be honest.

I show up as a full person: warm, present, and genuinely invested in my clients' lives. Once that foundation is there, I'm not afraid to gently challenge a pattern, ask a harder question, or sit with someone in the discomfort that often comes before meaningful change.

My work is grounded in an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed perspective shaped not only by my clinical training, but also by my own lived experience as a first-generation Indian-American woman with Bengali roots.

I understand personally what it means to hold multiple identities, navigate systems that weren't built for you, and find yourself somewhere between cultures. My work at Sakhi for South Asian Survivors, where I support individuals impacted by gender-based violence, has deepened my commitment to providing care that is culturally responsive and never one-size-fits-all.

Your First Session

A first session with me tends to feel more like a conversation than an intake. I'm not rushing to fill silence or check boxes. I'm genuinely trying to get to know you.

You can expect warmth, thoughtful questions, and probably at least one moment where you feel more seen than you expected. I make space for the full picture, including both the difficult parts and the lighter moments, because I believe they both belong in therapy.
